7KingdomsI’m a sucker for beer, themes, and themed beer.  So to kick off this new blog I decided to go with the latest Ommegang Game of Thrones beer “Seven Kingdoms”. Fitting since this past weekend was the start of Season 6. Is Jon Snow still dead?  is he now??   now???  How does this Hoppy Wheat Ale fair?

So many questions.

The Wheat Ale base is a Belgian white ale. You’ll get the typical banana smell and citrus on the nose and a pretty mild aftertaste. The bottle ask that you don’t disturb the yeast at the bottom but still pours cloudy, not that there’s anything wrong with that. Pretty consistant with other wheat beers i’ve had such as Allagash White. The Hoppy part though was missing for me. I’ve been big on IPA’s for the past few years and maybe I’ve become desensitized to hops in beers that are not normally very hoppy. This didn’t take away from the beer, but removing Hoppy from the label wouldn’t make me feel any different about the ale.

I’ve had two other beers from the Ommegang Game of Thrones series and I don’t remember being wowed by them either. But Themes!!! So despite the lukewarm impression I’m 100% sure that I’ll be buying the next in the series and I wouldn’t talk you out of buying a bottle of your own.
